Personal Disclaimer: This blog documents my individual experience with tirzepatide medication and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or representing Eli Lilly and Company, Mounjaro®, or any pharmaceutical company. This is my personal story only.
I want to tell you this story as any regular person lived it - a mortal like any other. That was me: a software engineering professional who had climbed every possible position in record time. I feel professionally successful. Some would say that should make me happy, but I still wasn’t completely happy.
My day-to-day might sound pretty comfortable, but I left many things behind to come live in Spain. I come from a small town in Venezuela, from a middle-class family - nothing extraordinary. I arrived in Spain after a personal failure: a divorce at 31, after being with the love of my life for almost 11 years. Three years married, and she decided to go to another country while I came to Spain. We took the paths we needed to take to move forward.
But that’s not why you’re reading this. You want to know: How has my personal experience using tirzepatide medication been?
That “magic formula” that was salvation for many, and I hope will be for me too. It’s only been two days since my first dose, but I think it’s really going to work.
The Raw Numbers
I’m 31 years old, 1.81m tall, and I was weighing 130 kilograms (287 lbs).
How ironic for someone who considers himself quite handsome - I think that was my sin for years. It’s like the curse of having a pretty face: you forget you also need to have a pretty body. You might think I’m narcissistic, but the reality is I do consider myself good-looking.
Social Pressure
Family and friends in Valencia had been telling me about this injection. First I heard about semaglutide, then tirzepatide. They pressured me quite a bit at family gatherings with comments like: “So-and-so already took that and lost 15-20 kilos, why don’t you do it?”
I wasn’t convinced. I don’t like needles - they make me nervous, can make me faint. Yes, a big guy like me can also pass out.
But I started using TikTok (you know, the most “reliable” place to learn things) and saw videos of people with real changes, authentic testimonials. Obese people like me who were truly losing weight. That fascinated me and made me believe it was possible.
The Decision
Money wasn’t going to be a problem. It’s not like surgery - which costs a fortune, has surgical risks, you need someone to take care of you. I don’t have those things here in Valencia. Besides, surgery scares me more than weekly injections.
I needed a giant push to get out of this hole. So I told myself: “You know what? Let’s try it.”
I researched everything about GLP-1 peptides, their effects, how they work to increase satiety and improve metabolism. I saw all the technical information on specialized sites.
But I’m here to tell you the truth behind all of that.
The First 24 Hours
Just hours after the injection, within the first 24 hours, I felt a strange sensation of calm. I no longer had that constant hunger and anxiety that always accompanied me. It was too early to declare victory, but something was changing.
I work remotely for the United States, so my schedule is 3 PM to 11 PM Spanish time. This led me to go to bed late, wake up later, and basically eliminate breakfast. I’d eat between 1 PM and 4 PM as my first meal of the day.
The First Plate
The first day, at 4 PM after the dose, I reached a point where I felt a little stomach ache - the kind that tells you “you have real hunger, you need to eat.” It wasn’t a craving, but real physical hunger.
I proceeded to take out my first serving of Sicilian salmon. A couple of weeks before, I had contracted meals from a company - 7 euros each balanced meal. Before, I would eat two of these plates a day plus cheeses, hams, and various snacks. Obviously, those were the extra calories that were killing me.
I thought: “I’m going to eat both plates and surely, since it kills my cravings, I won’t eat anything else.”
But when I went to eat it, I got to half the plate and was already completely full.
Incredible. I didn’t think something would work so easily or so quickly. I had to leave it because I felt truly satisfied.
About 4-5 hours later, at 8 PM, I got that little ache again. I ate the other half of the plate I had saved in the fridge.
The Mental Effect
That night I worked until 1 AM with technical problems. When I finished, I felt like “I hadn’t eaten anything” - but I think it was more psychological than real hunger, because I had no physical pain.
I decided to try a 72-gram can of tuna. It was tasty, but after finishing I was already sleepy and went to bed.
Day 2: The Confirmation
Today is the second day. I wasn’t hungry in the morning, something quite rare for me. I ate around 2 PM - chicken lasagna, one of my favorite dishes. I thought I was going to eat it all, but when I got to half I felt full again. I saved it for tonight.
Numbers Don’t Lie
What seems incredible to me is that the initial loss is obviously liquids. I drank a lot of water yesterday, went to the bathroom many times. Everything works normally.
First day: Started at 130kg (287 lbs)
When I went to the doctor: 129kg (284 lbs)
Today, weighing myself: 127.5kg (281 lbs)
I had lost 1.5kg (3.3 lbs) in two days.
These are immediate results, I know. But it shows.
Getting the Treatment
To finish this first entry, I want to tell you how it was to get tirzepatide in Valencia, Spain.
This MUST be done with a doctor - I don’t recommend doing it alone.
I searched a lot and couldn’t find available appointments. There were slots for October (we were on August 27th). Finally I found a clinic in Valencia specialized in obesity and diabetes.
Curiously, I put ChatGPT in agent mode to search for the closest available appointment in Valencia online. Technology is amazing - it found me Opción Salud Valencia.
The doctor asked me more questions than I could ask her. She wanted to make sure I really knew what tirzepatide was and what effects it had. Since I’m a nerd, I had researched everything, which she found interesting.
She explained everything about the pen, how to use it, how to inject myself, the doses. It cost me 360 euros ($390). The consultation was free through insurance. She asked for blood work for November, before going to Colombia for a few days.
She explained that I can transport the pen to Colombia in a special cooler - there are small ones that are adiabatic with ice that maintain temperature. I can take medication for two months between Venezuela and Colombia before returning to Spain.
What’s Coming
I’m ready to document this entire process. I’m also drinking green tea to accelerate metabolism.
The adventure is just beginning.
This is the start of my journey from 130kg to my goal. If you’re considering tirzepatide, I hope my real experience helps you make an informed decision.
